Overview
Elysium in brief: a high-throughput Arbitrum Orbit chain that settles to HyperEVM, runs co-located with HyperCore, and uses HYPE as native gas.
Last updated
Elysium is a general-purpose, high-performance DeFi chain built by Kinetiq and aligned with Hyperliquid. It is an Arbitrum Orbit (Nitro/ArbOS) Layer 2 that settles to HyperEVM, runs co-located with HyperCore, and uses HYPE as its native gas token.
Elysium is pre-launch. Specifications, parameters, and timelines may be refined before mainnet.
Why Elysium exists
HyperEVM is deliberately constrained. Its small blocks carry 3M gas every second (30M gas only on 60-second big blocks), which keeps activity composing with HyperCore but leaves little room for sustained high-frequency activity on the EVM itself.
Elysium supplies the throughput that workload needs: a 300 Mgas/s execution target at 100–200 ms blocks, roughly two orders of magnitude more gas per second than HyperEVM. It does this without leaving the Hyperliquid ecosystem. Assets, settlement, and market structure all stay Hyperliquid-native.
High-frequency trading and professional market-making AMMs are the flagship tenants, and the fee environment is tuned so that refreshing quotes 5–10 times per second is cheap. The chain itself is general-purpose DeFi: anything that runs on an EVM runs here.
HYPE is the gas token
HYPE is HyperEVM's own native coin, and it is Elysium's native gas token end to end. It bridges in 1:1 as native gas and withdraws 1:1. There is no wrapper asset, no staking hop, and no new token to hold just to transact.
What Elysium adds
- Speed and throughput. Real 100–200 ms canonical blocks with a ≈300 ms perceived transaction receipt, and a 300 Mgas/s execution target. See Chain specifications.
- A token lifecycle inside one ecosystem. A token can launch on an Elysium AMM, deepen on Elysium prop-AMM markets, graduate to a HyperCore spot orderbook, and reach a perpetual listing through HIP-3. See Token bridging on Elysium.
- Native HyperCore market data. Live HyperCore state (orderbooks, prices, balances, positions) readable by any contract for ordinary call gas, with no oracle pushes. See HyperCore market data.
- Fast HyperCore trading. Contracts can drive orders on HyperCore's books in ≈100–200 ms while the user keeps custody. See Trading on HyperCore from Elysium.
Architecture
Elysium settles to HyperEVM, and HyperEVM is the hop between Elysium and HyperCore for tokens. The HyperCore read and write paths are served directly by the chain (Elysium runs its own co-located Hyperliquid node), so they need no HyperEVM hop.
What ships when
- Launch. The chain goes live on stock ArbOS with native HYPE gas, 100–200 ms blocks, AnyTrust data availability, HyperEVM settlement, and the full token-bridging surface: the canonical bridge, the mirror bridge, and the HyperCore graduation path.
- About four weeks after mainnet. An ArbOS network upgrade adds the HyperCore read and write edge: the native market-data precompile and the keeper fast-write lane.
- Hardening. MEV telemetry and native Timeboost, block-time tuning toward the ≈100 ms Nitro block floor (HyperCore itself runs at ≈70 ms), permissionless proving (Arbitrum BoLD), and audits.
Next steps
- Chain specifications for block time, throughput, and settlement parameters.
- Building on Elysium for tooling, fees, and network details.
- Security and data availability for the trust model.
- Token bridging on Elysium for moving assets between Elysium, HyperEVM, and HyperCore.
